Very few individuals go through life without experiencing the acute anxiety of noticing the first pimple or blackhead. It heralds the onset of a new phase of bodily development and usually also coincides with a host of other firsts i.e. first years in high school , first time I noticed the boy next door ( who always used to be such a pest!) or maybe , my mate’s  sister isn’t that bad to be around after all!
It also heralds the time when mums (and dads) need to start digging deep to explain that it happened to themselves as well and that it does indeed eventually go away! Time never seemed to go slower whilst waiting for that new whizbang zit treatment to instantly turn your face into its glowing , unblemished former self.
The despair of acne sufferers knows no limits. Everyone needs to have a solution and have it yesterday.
What differentiates us from the acne sufferers of yesteryear , is that we have a vastly superior knowledge of how acne works  than the teenagers (and adults) of previous centuries. There is little need nowadays to revert to mysterious rituals and the use of curious potions and applications.
Modern day acne treatment is grounded in proven scientific principles. It also acknowledges that acne comes in a range of severity and that treatment needs to consider the different  needs of individual skin types. Acne occasionally affects adults as well or occurs in adulthood for the first time. It is not possible that one blanket treatment can cater for each individual’s acne.

Acne treatment typically consists of a basic routine of physical or mechanical clearance of comedones (whiteheads and blackheads and pustules) and thereafter maintaining clearance on a regular basis. Acne lesions are commonly infected by a bacterium , P. acnes , and this bacterium can cause infection or even a hypersensitivity reaction , which leads to the typical acne scarring. Because we know that acne is at best a temporary problem, lasting several years in most people, we encourage acne sufferers not to cause scarring by squeezing or over-abrading their skins with scrubs. The scarring left by these measures could be permanent .This mechanical/physical cleaning is best done by people trained in treating acne patients. The amount and regularity varies from patient to patient.
Regular care by the acne patient is vital in maintaining the freshness of the skin after each mechanical cleansing session .Treatments specific to individual patients and their specific skin requirements may need to be adjusted as the acne care program gets underway . Some of these might need prescription strength medication which can only be prescribed by a doctor or skin specialist. It is a proven fact that people spend $500 on average before consulting with a doctor about the problem.  The “one size fits all” acne treatment does not exist , contrary to what TV and magazine advertisements would have you believe.

However , the ready availability of proven , medically correct acne treatment is available at Skintegrity Clinic at 410 Charlotte St. , Deniliquin ,where dr.A.Liebenberg and staff will be happy to advise you.
